01 Qupe, Central Coast Syrah

Initially thin with red berries in front of light oak, Qupe opens in a matter of minutes to gorgeous Cotes du Rhone fruit. Earthy blackberries progress to plums and it's all backed by omnipresent yet subtle tar. Grapey. The tannins are soft and sweet up front, but grow to a stout leatheriness -- too tough and chewy without food, but not unpleasant.
