03 Domaine de Beaumalric, Muscat de Beaumes de Venise

High spicy acid and alcohol to the point of being smoky. Clearly young, but still ripe with controlled sugar that dries out on the finish to citrus rind and nutty cream. Floral, but aggressively volatile on the nose. Pleasantly devoid of any substantial weight on the palate with sugars giving way to the deep structure of this wine. Lingering pear.

Though nice on its own, this wine did little to compliment fresh apple pie. The fruit flavors match each other well, but the wine's dry finish brings out its alcohol next to the pie.

As the wine develops open in the fridge it does calm down. Though the apple pie pairing is still less than evocative, this may be a sign that the wine is simply too young.
