A guilty pleasure this one. Grab another bottle and have it with a ham and cheese omelet. Pure joy!

Will a prosciutto-and-mozzarella baguette do? That's what I'm having right now with the rest of this wine. Creepy... Are you in my refrigerator? If so, grab me a glass of vinho verde.

Nilay,
Thank you for this tasting note! This is exactly the kind of wine I've been craving lately (wine's answer to meat), but I wasn't sure whether the Maris was Yin or Yang.

It's a cool wine, just be careful. Its lack of concentration can get annoying, but the 04 Touge is still worth spending some time with--especially if a lean steak happens to hit the grill.

In the words of Mr. M. Loaf, two out of three ain't bad.

Yes, it's fair to mention that the Trio's 2/3--at about twice the price--is quite the wine. I look forward to picking up a bottle in the next few weeks if something dies and lands on my hot grill after work.

01 Montevertine, Toscana IGT

That is such a great wine. I really like it on its last legs right before falling apart, where it picks up some sherry qualities.
Another legendary producer making great IGTs is Badia a Coltibuono. Their 99 IGT sangioveto is amazing and its a third less than the montevertine. I highly recommend. - said...

Montevertine makes great Chianti. In a world of high alcohol, glycerin-laden wines (including many Chianti's and many more IGT wines), this winemaker has the guts to make a tremendous wine with elegance and true Sangiovese flavor. The 12.5% alcohol lets you drink an extra glass too.
